Christmas, Birthdays, Weddings, Engagement.. Merry all the way into 2010!

It's been a lovely December... the Patisserie increased its clientele and gathered several associates for events, and I also made the acquaintance of a lovely event planner (Yee Send) who has organised various themed parties.. I went to deliver some Sesame Street cupcakes to one of her events, and OH WOW! She has transformed a simple area under a tree into an Elmo-themed kids' party area. Anyone wanting a themed-party organiser, I would recommend her!

December also witnessed my renewed enthusiasm to develop this business, push for more consulting works opportunities, close deals and deliver the works (both Patisserie and consulting) and also at the same time enjoy life! Am reading several self-motivation & strategy books that I hope can help me steer and plan my journey further :)

December is also the final month of 2009, and as I prepare for 2010, I had several cupcake projects along the way.. there was an engagement party, several birthdays, Christmas parties & hampers.. it certainly was a merry month! Here are some pictures I took...

These simple cupcakes were for the Main Table at a wedding.

These cupcakes were for Ika's engagement gift tray. The cupcakes were arranged on a cupcake tree, and I hot-glued them to the tree so they'll survive the trip. Ika wanted black, white, blue and silver design for the theme.

Christmas cupcakes.

These cupcakes themed 'Mermaids Under The Sea' were for a poolside party, where there were many 'mermaids' swimming around :). I used edible gold dust to accentuate the seashells and mermaid tails. Only after I've completed them, I noticed that the mermaid were quite plump, haha!

So much to do, so little time..

Pheww!! Been too long since my last update, and in between so many things were made and happened. Halloween has passed, the Eid-ul-Adha is looming, and the starting of school holidays mark the start to the wedding season and kids parties.. Have so many interesting cake & cupcake projects coming this December, yesss!!!

Here are some of the recent things I made recently, and are overdue for publishing for you to enjoy..

GRADUATION CUPCAKES

Had a lot of fun doing this one! Decided to give the scroll a noble place ie on a golden pillow, and the hat on a bed of flowers... made me think of my own graduation day at University of Bath, UK... but no one gave me any cupcakes though.. :P.

HALLOWEEN CUPCAKES

As planned, I made some new cupcake designs to add on to last year's set. The owls were made with toasted almond slivers... quite tedious actually! Also added is the green Frankenstein, Jack-O-Lantern and Devil's Spear...

Dora the Explorer & Pocoyo week in da house!

Wow! What a tiring week its been :D. Had several cake and novelty cupcake projects along with catering dessert and light savouries for an event hosted by a dear friend. Only today am able to take time off to 'recuperate' my aching muscles from all that icing-pumping actions.

Dora The Explorer
One of my fave is this Dora the Explorer cake for a 5 year old girl named Wafa. By the way, Wafa is so cute and does look like Dora too! Made this chocolate cake using a Dora cake-pan, followed by hours of decorating with buttercream icing.

Pocoyo Themed Cupcakes
This is a memorable one. I started making the cupcake fondant decorations about a week earlier, and the result is colourful, theme-related and fun-looking cupcakes. Since I have yet to master fondant moulding of 3D figurines, opted for icing faces of the Pocoyo clan. Here's the outcome..

Halloween is near...

I just realised that it is October, and that means Halloween is near. Though I live in a country where our version of ghosts and anything scary are very much different from what other countries are familiar with (by the way, in our country, some types of ghosts can fly... thus pre-dates Superman..), i do make Halloween themed cupcakes that are not scary but kinda cute... These were the ones I made for the last Halloween.

My hubby and I...

Am looking forward to grow the range of Halloween cupcake designs this year. I might have a Halloween party myself, so look-out post Halloween for new cupcake designs from me!

Eid-themed & Mickey n Minnie

It's been so hectic lately that I haven't had the time to update this blog :P. Anyway, I have been making rounds delivering so, so many boxes of brownies, cupcakes and quiches where most of the customers ordered the cupcakes from available designs. Not that many design experiments happened in the last one week.

Anyway, here are some new ones made: one is for the current Eid celebration where the green and Islamic geometric design are associated with this celebration. The other is Mickey and Minnie: Simple with bright colours...

These were packed in a simple box that could fit the 12 pieces. The customer wanted these for her own simple & little birthday celebration.

Lovey-dovey cupcakes

These pastel-coloured cupcakes combine the use of buttercream icing and fondant to capture the love theme... I actually produced several other sets with varying colour combinations around this theme but I couldn't capture those when the camera went kaput... oh well, c'est la vie.. :-). Got me a new camera, and will keep all of you updated..

Apple birthday cake

Little princess Eya wanted an apple-themed cake, and she specifically wanted red apple, pink and purple flowers, and the rest is for me to figure out.. Instead of the ordinary apple cut-out shape, came up with this 3D cake. The inside is moist carrot cake with lemon cream cheese buttercream layer. Apples are made using cupcakes wrapped in fondant, then handpainted with food colouring. What's missing from these photos are the apple stems that were added last (after these photos were taken.)

Basket and floral details used royal icing.

Princess Eya's mom later informed that princess Eya loved the apples so much, she didn't let anyone take the apples and requested her mom to keep them in the fridge for her to enjoy later..

Price: RM95 per kilo.

Sesame Street cupcakes!

A friend of mine wanted a non-typical themed cupcakes hamper to send to her mentors in celebration of Eid. We thought 'Why not Sesame Street'? Totally non-related theme, and fun! She loved the idea, and in celebrating my favourite childhood characters, I made these cupcakes with as much loving details as possible :-)

Love the colours!

Big Bird is always my favourite! Its beak is made from royal icing, prepared 2 days in advance for it to be dry and hardened enough.

The colourful brigade of Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch.
